Contract for the ship was let to the North Carolina Shipbuilding Co. in Wilmington, N.C.

19 December 1944
The keel was laid---#1710, Hull type C2-S-B1, Adirondak Class

10 February 1945
The ship was launched.  She was sponsored by Mrs. O.W. Turner

6 March 1945
The ship was acquired by the US Navy

March 1945-January 1946
The conversion of the basic cargo ship to "Amphibious Force Flagship" was completed by the Atlantic Basin Iron Works,  Brooklyn, N.Y.

17 January 1946
The ship was commissioned the "USS Taconic AGC-17".  Captain C.G. Christie was in command

January 1969
The "USS Taconic AGC-17" was redesignated "USS Taconic LCC-17"

17 December 1969
The "USS Taconic LCC-17" was placed out of commission at Norfolk, VA.

1969-1979
The "USS Taconic LCC-17" was berthed in the James River, Virginia Reserve Fleet

1979
The ship was sold for scrap

*Naval records incorrectly give the commissioning date as 16 Jan 1946
