Naming "AGC'S"

"AGC" or "LCC" Type vessels are named for mountains and bear the names Adirondak, Mount Olympus, Mount McKinley, Pocono, Blue Ridge, Taconic, etc.

The "USS Taconic AGC-17" (LCC-17), was named for the Taconic Mountains, the part of the Appalachian chain of mountains located in New York State and New England.  The Taconic Mountains lie east of the Hudson River in New York and west of the Green Mountains in Vermont.

The designation "AGC" or "LCC" or "WAGC" labeled a ship as a "Command Flagship."  These vessles varied in size and were labeled by class.  The exception to this rule are the "WAGC'S" which were coast guard cutters.
