The Taconic Association is organized as a non-profit patriotic and fraternal society. Its goals are: to promote patriotism and camaraderie among those who served on board the USS Taconic during the ship's 23 years and 11 months active service with the U.S. Navy; to foster loyalty to the U.S. and encourage public support of the U.S. Navy and its many missions; to assist, whenever possible, in the recruitment and retention of high caliber naval personnel; to preserve the history of the USS Taconic through research, publications, and the maintenance of appropriate historical material relating to the ship's service; to inform and assist former crew members in matters regarding veterans' rights and benefits; and to unite former crew members for their mutual benefit through the sponsorship of annual reunions and other activities in support of these objectives.
There are 3 categories of membership: 1) Regular- anyone who served aboard the USS Taconic from her commissioning 17 Jan 1946 to her decommissioning 17 December 1969. They shall have the right to vote, seek and hold office, and participate in association activities; 2) Associate- any U.S. citizen, over 21, who supports the association's objectives and is sponsored by a regular member, men who served on sister ships that do not have an association of 20 members, widows of regular members. They may not hold office.; 3) Life- may be granted to any person by the Board of Directors to recognize significant and sustained support of the association and its objectives, to any paid up member whose health is such that active participation is not possible; and regular members making application to the board.
Dues are $15 yearly, payable to the treasurer. This entitles you to full membership and participation in the Taconic Association activities. Reunion fees are separate and payable to the reunion organizers.
